We don’t just help your student ace their next test or get an A+ on their next paper; we help them build an academic and organizational foundation that will carry them far beyond their time with us.
Hi, I’m Dr. Amy. I founded Empirical Academic Coaching to help students develop lifelong habits and skills that make learning a joy. A native Nevadan, I was born and raised in Reno and Northern California. I earned a B.S. in Health Sciences from St. Mary’s College in Moraga, CA, where I also played Division I lacrosse. Upon graduating, I returned to Reno and completed an MBA before earning an MA and PhD from the University of Nevada, Reno.
I currently lecture as a tenured professor at Western Nevada College and have been teaching in higher education since 2005. My teaching experience spans from community colleges and private liberal arts schools, all the way up to Research One universities. Ten years ago, I began doing private tutoring and individual coaching as a way of providing students with more personalized education. Since then, I’ve developed Empirical Academic Coaching into one of the nation’s top online tutoring destinations. I’m proud to say we’ve helped hundreds of students overcome their learning roadblocks to develop effective habits that carry them through their academic careers and into their working lives.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy staying active. I hold a second-degree black belt in a blended curriculum of Muay Thai, Taekwondo, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. For fun, I also run a printing press (The Bristlecone Press) out of WNC that does Letterpress printing and bookbinding. When none of the above has me occupied, my favorite things to do are spend time with my family and go for runs with my dogs.
